Canadian Art meets Irish Clover!

My final ‘Liberate Your Art’ 2017 side swaps arrived in Ireland this week from the very talented Sea Dean in B.C., Canada.  I received two postcards of Sea’s paintings ’Above the Lake’ and a series of work ‘Sea Dean Artist @ Art Walk’ (pictured below among the clovers).

On the envelope I received with Sea’s postcards I noticed the mail stamp with a striking monochrome portrait which stirred my curiosity.  After some research, I found that the stamp is part of a series of postal stamps celebrating 150 years of Canadian Photographers.  The portrait dated 1936, is of American Indian enthusiast, writer and conservationist ‘Grey Owl’ (Archibald Belaney).  This was one of many portraits taken by master photographer Yousuf Karsh.  Karsh’s work can be seen at the National Gallery of Canada.
